Organic Modernism...

While walking on W. 18th street with Fiona and our good friend, Jess, I ran across the newly opened Chelsea outpost of Organic Modernism.   With a store name like that I think I was pretty much guaranteed to love its furniture and design since I usually describe Patrick's and my combined interior style direction as 'natural materials with modern lines'...  My pictures of the interior of this store turned out pretty awful...so I tried to pick the 'least awful pics' and they don't really do the place justice but I wanted to give an idea of what's 'in store'.  The pieces appear to be quality and the prices are also not astronomical.

The Circus Pendant Light + the Plumen Blub at the Conran Shop

I was recently visiting ABC Carpet & Home in NYC and I ended up at the Conran Shop on the lower level of the store.  I've never made my way down there before.  But their furniture and furnishings are fabulous.  Modern lines with a cozy warm feel.  I really would love to use their Circus Pendant Light somewhere in our home.

The pendant caught my eye first, but then it was also what was inside the pendant that inspired me.  Where
can you get a light bulb like this?? So perfect for a pendant where you will see the light inside on display.

I did a little internet research and it appears to be the Plumen light bulb.  Not only is this bulb's design fabulous, it is also energy efficient!  Win Win!  What a great antidote to the undeniably cool but oh so power hungry vintage filament bulbs that have been in vogue the last few years.

Whimsical Wallpaper for Kiddos

 

Earlier this week, Daily Candy had a fabulous round up of kid oriented wallpaper.  I would love to decorate a wall in Fiona's room with some of these designs.  That is, when she actually gets a room of her own one day!   I can imagine her spending hours starting at the patterns daydreaming.  The magnetic wall paper by artist Sian Zeng is lovely and comes with movable pieces!  But I think my favorite is the paper with the scenes of Paris, Un Dimanche a Paris, from Famille Summerbelle.  The paper comes in both Silver-Yellow and Blue-Red.  It might be perfect for a child's (or adult!) bathroom too.  I love whimsical wallpaper in bathrooms, don't you?

Nice to meet you Holden...The New Jayson Home Catalog

I just received the Jayson Home Catalog in the mail this afternoon and I'm head over heels crazy about the Holden Wingchair.  How absolutely amazing is this?  It looks so comfortable and cozy and I love the mix of materials.   The chair feels both sleek and modern, yet handmade and vintage.  I've always been drawn right to the Jayson Home style in general.  I would love to visit their store in Chicago one day... Maybe I can fit it in when we go to Chicago for my brother's wedding in 2 weeks... Hmmmm.

West Elm Wall Art Inspiration

When I saw this fabulous new collection of art prints offered through West Elm in collaboration with 20x200 I was inspired to create my own art for our apartment with a similar theme of colors and geometric patterns. It will be a fun challenge to use different types of media to achieve a related look. If it is any good I will post the results on Green Shoots and Sparks. I have been challenging myself to make some art for our walls and this has given me the motivation to start creating. However, it is definitely tempting to just purchase these prints from West Elm. They are super affordable, fabulous looking and come already framed. You really can’t go wrong! …but I love a good art project!
